My Promise

Even though this isn't fair,
Don't think once I never cared.
I promise we were never lies,
But if you think that I won't cry.
I'll just sit and I won't run
But how could I not love someone
As great and as amazing as you,
Someone as fun and sweet and true?
I knew it would end like this,
So I strayed and kept distance.
You came closer the more I walked,
Then suddenly and to my shock,
You were next to me again
While I wondered when it would end.
You got a little too close to me
So I felt that I had to flee.
Don't you get it, don't you see?
We were never meant to be.
You just cared a little too much.
And I just didn't, not enough.
I'm terrible, I know I am.
I can't get close to anyone.
If I do, I will get scared.
You're just the only one that's dared
To hold me gently within your arms,
To keep me safe from every harm.
I guess I want a dangerous life
But I want you by my side.
Not as a lover or a foe,
But a friend I've come to know
As great as the stars know their sky,
As well as birds know how to fly.
Don't you worry, I'll keep my promise.
I won't break it, to be honest,
I'll always love you past the end
Because you're more than just a friend.
