Yet to Be

Remember last week?
When Debbie asked that fatal question.
"So, like, what's the feelings between him and you?"

And how you chuckled,
nonchalantly said,
"Oh nothing special..."
But behind that lie, it was true.

The innocent friendship has changed,
He's constantly on your mind.
Worming his way into your thoughts.

And then comes the opinions people must voice,
Whenever you're together.

"OMG! You two are so cute!"
"You're, like, dating right?"
'No seriously, you should date."
"You might as well go out!"

It goes on and on,
And gets so bad, that you wanna scream
"Yes, yes, I understand!
But I don't think you do."

I'm dropping hints like atom bombs,
shoving the question in his hands.
I don't think he'll ever hear,
The silent plea I ask...

Guys complain of 'zoned',
Rather it be 'friend' or 'family'
Or the dreaded...
"She thinks I'm gay..."

Well,
You aren't the only ones.
Us chicks go through it too.
When he says: You're like a little sister,
The honest reply would be,
"I really wish you wouldn't see me that way"

But it's hard to man up,
Especially if you're a woman.
And possibly ruin a great thing?
A friendship cherish by you two?

The tears that would fall,
The awkward silences...
It'll all be too much to bear.

I rather keep silent.
And tell my heart not to fret.

We can still be by his side,
This friendship's not over yet.
