Speak Up

"Speak up," you tell me.
"I can't hear you," you say.
Don't you get it?
I'm just not loud like you.
I don't yell and scream
To get my point across.
I watch and listen,
Think and observe.
Don't tell me to speak up,
Just let me be me.

"Speak up," you tell me.
"I can't hear you," you say.
Explain to me please
How I can be considered
One of the best employees on register
If no one can hear me.
Explain to me please
How the last customer I helped
Had no trouble understanding me,
But you can't hear me at all.

"Speak up," you tell me.
"I can't hear you," you say.
You complain because
All you can hear are whispers
Back and forth between us.
That conversation wasn't meant for you,
But you wish it was.
No private conversations are allowed,
Only ones that you can hear
So you're not left out and in control.

"Speak up," you tell me.
"I can't hear you," you say.
Don't you get it?
I'm just not loud like you.
I don't yell and scream
To get my point across.
I watch and listen,
Think and observe.
Don't tell me to speak up,
Just let me be me.
