Manic Pixie

My mother always warned me
about falling in love
with a pixie girl from afar.
She said the pixies
weren't to be trusted,
and would only break my heart.
Time carried on
and my faith in pixies faded
as I continued
to grow older.
I kept my eye out
for the fairy folk
at my mother's insistence,
but never thought that I
would meet one.
But then one day
I met Amy.
She swept into the town like a storm
and settled in like a blizzard.
Her intelligence entranced me
as she quoted books,
introducing me to a range of
new experiences and views,
taking my hand and leading me
to explore my mind.
She left as unexpectedly as she came,
leaving me a changed person and
leaving herself a mystery.
It was then I realised that
not every pixie had wings,
and I vowed to heed my
mother's advice properly.
