Mortal

Humans fear.
We fear,
What will happen to us?
To each other?
To the world?
So we rely on others,
Who we think will protect us,
Who, in our eyes, can never be brought down.
We feel safe.
But the people we see so tall,
Can only grow so far.
Our leaders are mortal,
Our parents are mortal,
We are mortal.
It is surprising,
Almost like a slap to the face,
When a person realizes how weak they,
Or a loved one is.
We must love
We must trust
But shall we depend on other people
To do everything for us
And us mortals
Shall surely fall.
