The Betting Game

When everything you need to say
Has already been said,
And all the cards you have to play
Are put out on the table,
All you can do is hope and stay.

You can wait the game out
Until it comes to an end.
You can accept fate or shout,
But at the close of the bet
If you loose do not pout.

I made a bet one January night
That I could steal your heart away,
And take you from the light
That bound you to someone else
Despite the knowledge it wasn't right.

I fell in love and I had you by the kiss,
But when I asked you to choose,
I was wrong to bet on me. You'd miss
The sex, but not the love I provided.
I threw my cards out and lost all my bliss.

I do not regret the poker game
I played. Sometimes you loose,
Sometimes you win honor and fame,
But in the end all things happen for a reason,
I hope you feel the same.
