Secrets

A glowing street with lights like heaven
softly touched my bony chest

filling up with love, quite like
the cement, wet from the ocean mist.

He lived five blocks from me
on a special street that had the key

to my gem-embedded treasure chest
with unspoken vows and fears in it.

Like a half-sun peeking from the hills,
I was torn between two good ideas:

stay down where it's safe and warm?
get up and leave that innocent feel?

We played on our street till it got dark
then grew up in our busy rooms.

He never knew, but that's alright
this special street keeps all those secrets.
