The only proof that she existed
Lies right here with me.
I’ll never forget her
And what she represented to me.
She showed me that
Innocence survives
In the world,
That kindness survives.
I loved her forever
And always will.
I’ll love her forever,
Even when my heart is still.
Forever lasts a long time,
So they say.
I’ll love her forever
Until the last day.
I see her handwriting
And trace it with my trembling hands.
I know she’ll always be there for me,
Just like I’ll always be there for her,
Forever.
I dedicate this to one of my best friends in the whole world. I wouldn’t have survived if it wasn’t for her. I thank her for that short friendship that only lasted a year and a half. She moved away and we lost touch. However, I will never forget what she taught me – simple friendship can last only a lifetime, only a year, only a minute but true friendship can last forever and ever. This is a simple poem, I know that. It has nothing special added to it, nothing like sugar or spice. But it conveys all that is left of my feelings and memories. Those memories are etched into my heart and in this 5 stanza sonnet permanently. I know she will never read this, and I accept that. I just want to say that I love you, Lauren. And I always will.
