Dear Father

Dear Stranger, have you
Ever known a smile?
I've heard you tell a joke before
Which left my reddened face sore
But still, its been a while
Since I heard you laugh lots too.

Dear Father, do you
Feel sad a lot, these days?
Despite my troubled thoughts and hurries
Let me shoulder your worries
So at least you can't say
That you just 'don't have time to'.

Dear Paul, is it
That it hasn't entered your mind
That I've grown now; I'm not a child
Anymore? Your understanding is mild
But sufficient, I suppose (I'm being kind)
The candle's nearly lit

Dear Dad, I know
That you really do love me
And even though (its strange to say)
Your methods are puzzling, but that's okay
Because I'm here for you eternally
Let's get through the high and low
