"May the Lord be with you."
The preacher man said, as he smiled upon the rows
In wooden pews, paying their dues
The bored children muttering,
"This is worse than the queues!"

Oh Mr. Preacher, the man in the flowing robes,
I quite agree with what you propose.
Don't I wish the Lord was with me?
I sigh, my eyes turning misty.

All I wanted was a happy life-
Isn't that all anyone needs?
I loved the Lord, I really did,
but I will not be deceived.

"And also with you."
I said in reply-finally playing my part.
I wished him well, after all,
who would want to lose their heart?

"Let us pray."
He said,
and I bowed my head.
"Dear God"
I struggled, through those tears unshed.
"I'm sorry."
