Understand

As much as it hurts to say the words
and as much as it hurts to let you go
but we both know it's what we should
we both know how it's supposed to go

cuz happily ever afters are overrated
life made sure to prove them wrong
and even though it was the epic fairytale
maybe it's time to wake up and move on

if we're meant to be, only if
but we both know it's a faraway dream
somethings we can't catch, can't feel
can't hold on to cuz it's not real

some dream in the heart of two teens
crushed by the cruelness of the real world
can't be processed, can't be understood
can't explain how it came down to this

standing in the rain lost for words
each heart shouting a million thoughts
if the silence was a knife, it surely is blunt
its cuts hurt more than words could've

hoping one day we'll understand
maybe one day we could see the reason
but whatever reason i don't think it will
be good enough to cover up the bruise

a warrior standing amidst the fire and ashes
lost the battle yet refuses to surrender
their hands wrap around us, pulling apart
even the tears can't soften their hearts

what a cruel world to create such cruel souls
can't understand feelings they'd never been shown
the smallest minds have the greatest authority
the power to break a heart cuz they refuse to understand

what difference does it make, your religion?
what difference does it make, the colour of skin?
we live under the same sky, breathe the same air
and believe the same god is up there

but to let us be? that they can't
locked their minds away in the dark
think they know best cuz they memorised a word
and refused to understand the rest of the book...
