Evadere aut Stare?
Once I watched my cat,
Slither fat and slimy
Through a gap in the wood
Of my old garden fence.
I tried to be a cat,
One of feeble magnitude,
Not squeezing through,
But sticking.
I stuck like a fish,
Hung heavy by the lip
With my ragged flesh aching
And a defiant set grin.
Still not letting go,
Not slippery in the current.
I thrashed like a martyr
Till my time was spent.
And though I have been gutted,
My bones piled bare and dry,
I would rather be a betta fish,
Than that sly cat of mine.
