Among Lords and Vassals

It is interesting to watch
a bird with clipped wings
and wonder how
we can hinder their flight

please don't tell me that
we’re setting things right
just because we set out
on this self-righteous plight

but I don’t really have to ask
because the answer is clear
We are the top of the top
and we hold ourselves dear

Let’s not dodge an answer
let’s be perfectly straight
We’re so self-absorbed
our ego is practically innate

Even when we trip
over silly prerequisites
our confidence in our selves
is really quite exquisite

Or maybe that’s just my humanity
speaking for itself
distorting another story
for us to retell

But I've still got this selfish inquiry
to which an answer I do not expect
so may you look upon it
not in jury, but in jest:

What if I told you
we could live like kings?
Would you promise to keep secret
the truths a bird sings?
