Hurricane That Was You

The first time our lips met
Was like a life preserver thrown out to sea
A silent oath was made between us:
"I'll save you if you'll save me."

What followed was a hurricane, both beautiful and tragic.
Our mistakes of the past could no longer be pardoned
And they flooded the streets with memories
Of those we thought had been forgotten.

The water kept rising, trying to drown all inside
So we're faced with the story, how it ends in such a terrible way.
When the hero is forced to leave the city
And the heroine finds herself too weak to save the day.

The lights begin to fade, a sad song starting
As the sun sets over the ghost town,
A watery grave for the hopes and dreams
Of those the storm tried to drown.

And now that they're miles apart but broken still
The two must somehow learn to live
A life of glue and duct tape
Where the adhesive is a wish.
