Blinded by Blood

I have seen generations of men,
one after another
Marching beneath the skies of heaven,
Where they stood poised,
To face the other.

I have seen boys grow,
Corrupted by bloodlust
Dragging the bodies in tow,
Stirring the crimson dust.

I have seen young men,
Losing themselves to violence
Leaving their former selves,
Tainting black the shards of innocence.

I have seen thousands of bodies lying,
Under the sun's unwavering light
From pale vessels their souls come flying
Towards a destination so bright.

I have seen families mourning,
Wives and children cutting ties
As dawn comes to say 'Good morning'
They cleanse themselves of the recent demise.

I have seen the desolation,
The loss, the guilt, the sadness
The beast that drives men into desperation,
Taken over by madness.

I have seen the endless cycle,
The perpetual circle of darkness
I have seen humans beyond saving,
Blinded by blood.
