The Wolf

Black fur caressed the pine trees that grew far too close together.
Large black paws sneaked silently over the dew covered grass.
Stalking, eyes sharp as steal, the deer that so helplessly grazed on the sweat green.
The wolf, an assassin of the night, sank abdomen to the ground, hidden by the forest.

Wild, hungry, anger pulsing through his veins he waited.
The moon slipped behind a single night cloud, darkness stunned the world.
It was time.

Using the conjured anger and strength he leaped from the forest floor,
The doe lifted her head in the heart stopping fear that only death can bring
And darted into the forest. Chasing, only seconds behind, the wolf’s
Excitement building, hunger for the sweet delicate flesh of the animal
Pushing him to go faster.

Seconds passing like hours he came to the right side of the deer,
Able to smell her dread and panic as if, it was her blood.
Racing swiftly through trees of black, they turned left and right at the deer’s whim.
But the wolf with his sly intellect was puppeting the doe right into his trap.

Manipulating the deer like a mere puppet, dangling helplessly in his claws,
Until he cut the string and she would be no more. Not far ahead a boulder
Sat between two others a trap found by a clever wolf, a dead end to be
Made his dinner place.

The doe, sprinting for her life, could feel the breath of the
Hungry wolf on her backside and she knew in moments his breath
Would not be the only thing she felt there. A smile coming to his lips
The wolf knew the large rocks loomed just further on.

Speeding up the wolf could just reach the back foot of the deer,
Holding back temptation he drew on. The doe ran right
Into the boulders that stood like mountains side by side,
And she new it was over.

The wolf bound forward and landed on the back on the doe,
Sinking his teeth into her neck. The cunning wolf had the doe,
Shaking her with all his kingly might. Confidence, blood thirst,
Power came to the wolf as he snapped the neck of the innocent, fearful deer.

The end of the night was here.
