Deeper

What has always puzzled me,
Is what it actually means to be,
One can just come to the conclusion
That we’re simply a defect of evolution,
But it just has to be Deeper.

Some believe in heaven,
But in my mind that does nothing to soften
The fact that one day-
To all humanity’s dismay-
It will all be gone.

Some may say that this is “just so sad,”
That everyone from the youngest baby to the eldest granddad-
Will die,
But this is what we’re made to do- otherwise would be a lie-
Like the flick of a switch: no more.

And the world will rejoice
For our inhabitance wasn’t its choice-
The human race is an infectious affliction
That would never expect it: a change of direction
Our prejudice states “that’ll never happen.”
But maybe it’s true-
That nothing important will come of me or you-
And maybe we should hold dear:
The fact that it’s chance we’re here,
But it just has to be Deeper.
