We Can Dream

Plane rides never ended well for me,
At least I lost you in a painter’s dream,
But I never thought I’d see your sunset,
Fall over you in flames,
So warm when you’re lying,
Cold in your grave.

If I lay down next to you,
Could you hold me through the night,
Until the storm has passed,
Can you tell me it's alright ?

Hold me close, the waves are strong,
But you’re so much more than you think,
You say I’m not alone,
And I’ll listen while you speak,
Weave a story with your hands,
Sing ‘till I fall asleep.

You make me feel like it’s okay,
To close my tired eyes,
With a smile that pushed away,
The monsters I kept inside,
It’s hard to think of you dead,
When you’re the reason I’m alive.

I still feel your heart,
Like it beats in my chest,
Straining my lungs,
Like they’re holding your breath,
And I still hear your voice,
Like you’re living through death.

I feel your arms wrap around me,
When I’m alone in the night,
Holding me closely,
Until I’m safe in the light,
And I know that you’re with me,
Wherever I go,
And maybe I’m weak,
But you’re all that I know.

Dust in the wind and a hole filled with dirt,
I can’t think of it now,
You’re not here to make it not hurt,
There’s no one to stop me from lying down,
And wasting my life,
Until I’m with you in the ground,
But I can keep you alive,
If I live inside my head,
With your voice in my mind,
You’ll never really be dead.

So hold me close,
I’ll fall asleep by your side,
And the sunset’s glow,
Can fall away with the tide,
We’re where we belong,
With the sand and the sea,
I don’t need to move on,
Stay here forever with me.
