To Have Never Been Born

To Have Never Been Born
Eric Berger

With each life comes death.
Death, despair, destruction.
Everything you know will be forgotten,
Lost to the void.
Everything you love will desert you,
On an island of misery.
Your mind and body are terrifyingly frail,
You will undoubtedly fail.
Friends will come,
Friends will go.
Lovers will love you,
Lovers will leave you.
Family will wither.
You will have nothing.
Even your mind, the greatest of companions,
The only friend you can truly confide in,
The only shelter you can turn to in times of struggle,
Times of suffering,
Will abandon you.
You will undoubtedly fail.
Your mind will undoubtedly fail.
The world around you will crumble.
Entropy will run its natural course.
There is no escape.
No escape.
To have never been born,
Is the only plausible cure.
Alas, that’s a fate you will never achieve.

I know my first three poems have been really upsetting/depressing, but I promise I'll post some more uplifting ones eventually.
