In which the morning sun breaks our silence

It creeps through the window, casting away the shadows
Of a seemingly endless night.
God knows neither of us have slept a wink
And we are well aware of it too.
Inches away from each other, we do not touch.
But our bodies radiate a warmth that the summer sun
So kindly shares
With two vulnerable bodies
In a fragile state.
Your chest rises and falls against the time
In an effort to slow it down.
I take a deep breath and turn to you,
Only to find you turning to me,
And once we've settled, we smile a sad smile
Equivalent to the goodbyes we refuse to say.
Half of you is buried in the pillows and the sheets
But the features of your morning face are soft.
We close our eyes and enjoy the company.
Our bodies intertwine and our heartbeats align
And I find myself wondering when I can have you again.
We melt into each other, leaving everything behind.
The morning sun may have broken our silence,
But just for today
The world can wait.
