You Wanna Feel Beautiful

Your walls are covered
With the beautiful faces of people you've never met
And your floors are hidden
Underneath layers of magazines
Telling you how to be someone you're not
And the television cuts through you
With words and pictures
Telling you why you're flawed.

You stand before the mirror,
Tears in your eyes
And you press your hands to your stomach,
Wishing you looked like all the superstars out there,
The ones who look so happy,
The ones who look so utterly flawless.

You listen to all the songs
That whisper comforting words to you
That tell you you're beautiful
Unstoppable
Perfect
But you don't believe a word of it.
You sing along to the sweet melodies
Dripping out of your speakers
And it might lift your spirits
But you don't believe it.
You can't believe it.

So you'll spend another night alone
Laying in your bed
Wishing to not only drown out the world
But your own haunting thoughts
Because they rip through you the hardest.

One day
You'll see your beauty
And your strength.
It'll shine through just when you need it to.
Hopefully your eyes will open
And it'll be a beautiful day.
You deserve only beautiful days
Even if you think you don't.
So toss out the magazines,
Peel down the posters
And shut off the television.
Block out all those faces
Of all those pretty superstars,
Ignore all those words
From all those journalists
Telling you how to live.
Everyone has their own piece of perfection.
