Hope Fails

Persistent knocking finds my ears,
As I traverse this maze, my mind.
I’m searching, oh what shall I find,
The force that will dissolve my fears?

This gloom has plagued me all my years.
As crooked boughs, it twists and winds.
It traps me, holds me, leaves me blind,
And on occasion renders tears.

Alas the knocking’s just a tease,
It quickly dies, as all hope fades.
I’ll never heal this throbbing strife.
My mind will never rest at ease,
Always pierced with sharpest blades.
I sigh as I accept this life.
