The Wolven Girl

They called that one the wolf girl.
They said she was oh so strange.
She sat in the dark and looked at the moon,
Her words made her sound deranged.

They said she wanted to be a wolf,
Being why she greeted nightly the moon.
She talked with the trees, the earth, sun and sky,
They all said her head was a hot air balloon.

That girl though never took ear
To the words that flickered through the air.
She simply talked to the sky and pretended to howl,
Without any single care.

Wolf girl poked my curiosity,
Until no more of this could I stand.
I decided to go speak with her,
And she told me something grand.

She said to me "do you know of the wolves?
Those who guide us all?
They watch over each and every person,
Those being big and small. "

Now I understood the people,
She really did sound not all there.
Wolves can't watch the entire world,
That's not a talent they bare.

"Wolves stand together no matter what,
Can you imagine that?" I hear her say.
I'm now regretting my speaking with her,
Perhaps I can come again another day.

"Wolves are loyal," she continues,
"and don't ignore those who aren't the same.
When one falls, they're helped back up,
While others stand to acclaim."

She looked to me with big wolf eyes,
And spoke in a gentle tone.
"Wouldn't that be lovely to see?
That's more love than I've ever known."

She didn't look at the moon
For the days that followed our speech.
She wasn't to be seen by the meadow or caves,
Nor even on the beach.

She seemed to have vanished
Out of thin air that night.
But on each one that followed,
The stars and moon shown exceptionally bright.

But I couldn't help but wonder
What happened to that strange wolf girl.
Who on the last night of her presence,
Gave me just a sneak into her world.

Maybe she is a wolf now,
What if her dreams became real?
How would all those people act,
After making her such an ordeal?

They'd probably be happy to be rid of her,
Of her wolf eyes and strange word.
They thought everything she spoke of,
Was more than absolutely absurd.

And I was among the like,
Until the last night she was here.
Sometimes I look at the moon and think of her,
Her words ringing in my ear.

Wherever or whatever she is,
I hope her wishes came true.
Because if I was in her place for even a second,
I'd want to be a wolf too.
