A Little Girl

There once was a little girl who lived in a house,
And looked very pretty in her pink lacy blouse.
She had a lot of people she was very close to,
And everybody could tell that her happiness was true.
She played hopscotch, Mary Mack, dolls, and pretend,
She was always seen around her very best friend.
One day with her friend, down by the creek,
They were playing a game of hide and go seek.
Her friend started counting one, two, three,
While she ran and hid behind a large oak tree.
Behind that tree she stayed all day,
And she noticed the sky, as it slowly turned gray.
The shining sun and chirping birds were gone,
And soon the little girl fell asleep on the lawn.
She awoke at midnight with a great nightmare,
And dreadfully realized her best friend had left her there.
She was scared and alone and wanted to be found,
But when she tried to scream, out came no sound.
She ran through the forest, frantic and blind,
She ran as if a monster was chasing her from behind.
She didn’t know where she was going or how she would get there,
But she continued running, feeling hopelessness and despair.
She came across a stone, which she stumbled and fell,
And rolled into the creek, as she started to yell.
Into the water the little girl splashed,
And on a large rock, her head was smashed.
There once was a little girl who got lost in the creek.
If you listen very carefully, you can still hear her shriek.
