The Phoenix

I'm sorry if I'm wasting your time,
But something terrible's reclaiming my mind,
I kept it locked up in a chest inside of me,
And when it closed I thought I threw away the key,
But surprisingly enough I came to find,
What I thought I'd buried wouldn't stay inside,
And now, you see, it's lit the match to start the fire,
From this inferno's born a phoenix of my darkest desires.

I lost myself,
I clawed my way back from hell,
It's time to unbind,
I'm letting go of me and leaving it all behind.

I let in the sickness,
I cast away my weaknesses,
I won't apologize for this,

No more restrictions,
I'm living how I want to now,
My inhibitions,

I realize now that this demon can't be tamed,
I didn't know I was the only one to blame,
I wanted to be good, my morals were so strong,
But then I saw it was a part of me all along,
To my surprise it was a torrent of relief,
The stress of trying to impress filled me with grief,
So I decided it was time for this to end,
I put my guard down and I let the darkness in.
