Welcome Back

She woke up in the morning and looked in the mirror.
Her eyes looked empty, desolate, full of fear.

She ate her breakfast and drove to school just like a drone.
Sat for a minute, looked at the clock, and got out with a groan.

She avoided everyone and hid in the bathroom between class,
But still, they found her and taunted her until she felt like trash.

This was her life, every single day.
She tried SO hard to make it go away.

Then finally the end was in her sight.
No more waking up filled with fright.

Eventually her smile returned, her laugh, her walk,
Then one day I started to talk.

I remembered my hopes and my dreams.
I realized it isn't as bad as it seems.

When I wake up in the morning I make a positive list.
I have a future as a lumberjack, I can run seven miles, and I am fully prepared for the zombie apocalypse.

Now after my day when I look in the mirror,
I say welcome back, because I am no longer consumed by fear.
