A New Leaf

I'd spent so long,
chasing after you.
I'd spent so long,
trying to make this work.
I'd shed so many tears,
over you.
I'd spent so many days,
trying to forget you.

But one day,
you pulled me back in.
Something made me
decide that you're worth it.
Something brought back
the butterflies.

I've decided that you deserve
one more chance.
I've decided to turn over
a new leaf.

It was hard,
you crushed me.
You hurt me and I wasn't
so sure that I could bounce back.
Something made me put away
the past and take a chance.

This time it's for real.
No second chances,
no more mistakes,
no more games.
This time, it's now or never.

I've turned over a new leaf,
I sure hope you have, too.
I hope you can leave the past
where it belongs,
and go where life takes us.

No matter what happens
promise me this:
that you'll never hurt me,
like you did before.
That what you feel is
nothing but real.
And that you deserve
a second chance.

This poem is about the guy I wrote about in the poems torn and There's Nothing Else. This pretty much explains why I decided to give him a second chance and become friends again.
