Skylight Eyes

"I will go and find myself,"
I said one summer night
To the drop of time and space collided
the stars and their cold light
My journey long, monotonous
my feathers violet-gold
I edge the night, never stopping
'til my sins grow old
I'll lose my plumage in the dark
to swooning skylight eyes
The fast percussion of our hearts
the loosening of lies
I'm whipped with whimsy, I must go,
give him one kiss farewell
I'm running, like the beat of our hearts
only time will tell
Down by the streams that criss and cross
The moon above my cover
I am the flightless bird of smoke,
a melody, a lover
