Scarlet Stains on Ivory Keys

she writes her song to stay alive
always a somber lullaby
from the start
she paints over her eye
to hide the times shes cried
in the dark

she plays on her piano
underneath the midnight sky
and she slices through the chords
to drown out every lie
she pounds to the beat of something melancholy;
the sounds of scarlet stains on ivory keys.

she hides the scars with lace
but the blood seeps through
she has a blank face
so that no one can see the truth
why would anyone care,
why would you?

she breathes for the others
but bleeds for herself
she screams out
but its just a mute call for help

she plays on her piano
a new key with every cut.
a new memory that stains
a hopeless disappointment
she pounds to the beat of blood dripping
scarlet stains on ivory keys.

she slits on the piano
a new scar with every note
but she doesn't care
cause she cant hear
the scarlet stains on ivory keys
dripping anymore
