Your Human Burden

Every time someone mentions us together,
You sigh sadly, shoulders weighed down,
By the burden tied to you by tether.
It's only me making you frown.

But i promise you i'm trying,
Swallowing every ache in my throat,
Need to stop crying.
I feel when it rises, making me choke.

I know i'm selfish and weak;
I wish i had the guts to set you free,
But i've got to at least give myself a chance,
To become a better me.

I'd love to be all that you think i am,
And maybe i'll never match up,
I can only give all that i can.
Hopefully that'll be enough.
