A Child's World

It’s that sweet innocence and simplicity.

It’s getting to play outside for five more minutes.

It’s hugging your teddy-bear at night to fend off the terrors.

It’s crayons and juice boxes and band-aids.

It’s dirty and sticky and always ends with a bath.

It’s a mother’s gentle touch and a father’s superhero appearance.

It’s feeling safe and invincible without even knowing it.

It’s being immune to the world and its problems.

It’s letting other, bigger people do all the work.

It’s wanting so badly to grow up and hating when people tell you you’ll one day feel otherwise.

It’s falling asleep anywhere at all but always waking up warm in your bed.

It’s when you could be anything or anyone, dreams could take you to the most magical faraway places, and there were no impracticalities in your way.

It’s when no one told you something was impossible, and there was no reason that it should be.

It’s when it made sense for nothing to ever make sense.

It’s being careless and free-spirited.

It’s having your parents make decisions for you and not minding.

It’s when you’re the most important person in the world, and what you want is all that matters.

It’s when the bigger people are always right and you always have to listen.

It’s closing your eyes and not ever thinking for a moment that time will go by.

It’s when nothing ever changed, and nothing was ever gone. Nothing hurt, and no one lost. Everything was fair, and everything was fun, and everything was perfect.

Call me childish, but wouldn’t it be nice if we all lived in a child’s world?
