Pitchy Chorus

Have you ever had a secret;
A secret that no one could tell?
You’d keep it to yourself,
A secret that would take you to hell.

Day and night,
Month through year,
The lies grow and grow,
Hidden behind the tears.

Soon enough
The clocks done ticking.
Everyone’s waiting
But the canary won’t start singing.

It’s a woeful tune
Woven during years gone.
The listeners gather near,
Expecting a different song.

The mouth wrenches open,
Screeching bared feelings.
The listeners cover their ears,
Stopping the bleeding.

They scamper off one by one,
Tail hidden up their ass.
By the end of the chorus,
There was no one’s hand to grasp.

I’ll listen, they said.
Trust me, they lied.
If you promise, I had whispered.
I had agreed to try.

It’s not their fault,
They don’t need my despairs.
They exist only within me,
It’s not their job to repair.

Days and weeks,
Same old smile.
New people come,
They're all just as vile.

They wonder why I don’t trust,
What can I say?
I’d offer to sing,
But then they won’t stay.
