Outside the Box

I walked into a new school one day
I was so nervous
It was my first day of high school
And I was so afraid no one would like me
But you walked right up to me
And you said "Hi, you look lonely,
I think I should talk to you."
At first I was worried you were just pitying me
After all you looked like a pretty fuckin' chill chick
But you were genuinely nice to me
Later we started talking about our shared interest
And I really hoped the friendship would last
You gave me a ride home from school on the first day
You bought me new clothes on you birthday
When I had only known you a month
That has always stuck with me
It meant a lot to me

And then,
The next year
I walked into another new school
But this time you were by my side
And it wasn't so nervous
And for all the time I went to that school
You stood by me
And made it all bearable

Now we've been friends for almost two years
And you're the best friend I've ever had
I know I can say just about anything to you
And I don't have to worry about being judged
Because you're not that kind of person
And I totally love that
All my friends before you were very
Inside the box
And you fuckin' tore that box up to get out

I guess what I'm trying to say is
You're my best friend in the world
And I'm so grateful that you walked up to me that first day
