For the Night
His eyes follow down
The whole sidewalk
And rest at the
Edge of the street
Fingers tap on
The leather steering wheel
Where years ago he'd
Sworn he'd never be
Turning down the radio
To a whisper, to a hum
He listens and he
Watches her float by
But it's only imagination
No, it couldn't be
He moved miles away
And hasn't touched
Her face in years
Rubbing his stoned eyes
He tries to reach and
Grab her hand
He knows she'll be
Gone by the dawn
But only needs her
For the night
The whole sidewalk
And rest at the
Edge of the street
Fingers tap on
The leather steering wheel
Where years ago he'd
Sworn he'd never be
Turning down the radio
To a whisper, to a hum
He listens and he
Watches her float by
But it's only imagination
No, it couldn't be
He moved miles away
And hasn't touched
Her face in years
Rubbing his stoned eyes
He tries to reach and
Grab her hand
He knows she'll be
Gone by the dawn
But only needs her
For the night
