Can You Hear Me Now?

Screaming so loudly, you never paid attention
to the little girl who grew up
needing you so desperately
but you were never around
always working, putting food on the table
that you were never there to eat
I lived in constant fear of you coming home late
or not coming home at all

Now you're home all the time
but your baby girl's all grown up
a teenage girl, living in a dreamworld
of music and books and poetry

now I'm not screaming anymore.
the time has passed to get to know me,
you don't know me at all.
Maybe I'm not screaming
but I'm not quiet either.

You never heard your little girl
tell me, can you hear me now?
