Emerald Eyes

He came to me last night,
Lips full and eyes longing.
Such beauty in his face.
He pressed his hips against me,
Skin pulled taunt over bone
And eyes full of wonder.

Such eyes. What emeralds gleam
Beneath skin so pale?
Emeralds that sparkle with
Every unshed tear and
Each unhappy moment.

I gathered him in my hands
And took him up to bed
Where I undressed him slowly,
And tried to mend his sorrows.

I watched him leave today,
Eyes still sparkling.
He walked across the street
With his head down. Such loneliness
Within him. Such wonder.
