Not Me in the Mirror

When I look in the mirror, what do I see?
I see someone who is not really me.
My heart drums a beat, soft and unheard
When someone asks who I am, I don’t utter a word.
I know who I am, but do you too?
When I try to tell you, I stop and think it through.
I cannot believe you will accept me this way.
But I’m not sure I can go another day
Lying to you about who is really me.
Because when I look in the mirror, that’s not what I see.
