Battle Scars (A poem inspired by the US military)
Running from the fear I feel, the sky falling all around.
You can rest in peace tonight, I'm keeping you safe and sound.
Out here on the frontlines, I think of you from afar.
You're the reason I am here, collecting these battle scars.
Attacking my mind, preying on my thoughts, the warfare we have waged.
I'm locked inside, going crazy all the time, trapped in my restless rage.
I think of you and the beauty you are, as I look up to the stars.
I hope that you can accept me, despite these battle scars.
My mind is most at ease tonight, though I lie awake in bed.
The horrible, hateful things I've done, screaming in my head.
You are sleeping sound tonight, the door, I've left ajar.
Trust no-one is the lesson learned, from these battle scars.
