Look Twice At The Lake
They pulled a body out of the lake today.
Black eyes
Blue skin
Nails a meticulous red.
Her shoulders had hung for so long in the water
Feet drifting in the dark below
But no one noticed
No one saw a thing.
No one saw those
Broken red nails
No one heard the
Choking screams
No one noticed a single thing.
They pulled me out of the lake today.
I could see
My skin shone pale like the moon.
And my nails dripped like the memory of a nightmare.
I’d lain so hopeless
Died so cold
Begging
But no one heard.
I tried
I tried so hard.
But did you see me?
No.
No one noticed.
