Lost In the Red

I’m watching the trees,
A leaf tumbles down
Reminding me that fall is anxiously waiting;
Summer is being escorted out.
My eyes close, my lips dance up in a smile,
Vivid recollections of autumn scurry around my mind.
The red, flawless color, twirls like a ribbon;
Crunchy leaves underfoot,
Sweet scented apples plucked from a scraggly branch.
Red blazers and sweaters,
Red skinny jeans and TOMS.
Passion and love,
Longing for the impossible.
You’re singing a melody only my heart can hear.
Scorching bonfires, searing stadium lights.
Numb-filled Friday nights,
Flags fluttering in waves of silk,
Music in motion, music for the deaf.
Cozy Sunday nights,
Snuggled in blankets,
Slumped on the couch, not relaxed at all.
Tom Brady, Gronk spike,
Stevan Ridley tearing it up.
Raspy voice from hours of shouting,
One day they’ll hear me.
Cautious sips, apple crisp,
Family and friends, giving thanks.
My view shifts back in focus,
Grass poking through my nose again.
Bursts of yellow,
Smeared on a plain canvas,
A toss of glitter on the green blades;
The artist’s stylistic flair.
Shorter plants, humbly bowed over
In reverence of the tall rulers of the woods.
They’ll soon be set on fire,
Blushing orange, red, yellow, brown.
Each remembering their timeless summer love.

Even though I go back to school in the fall, it's definitely my favorite season. I wrote this for my writing class in school; hopefully you guys like it! I'd love to hear what you think. :)
