Lights and Shadows

Traveling upon a road, so dreary.
I long to rest my head, so weary.
I glance to the left, and once to the right,
but all I see on this cold winter's night,
are streetlights, with their faint yellow glow,
and my darkened shadow, upon the snow.

With a huff, and a puff,
and a shiver or two,
I stuff my hands in my pockets,
not wanting to continue.

It's always winter on this quiet road-
Or at least, that's what I'm told.
It's dark and damp, empty and hollow
and all I can see are lights and shadows.

But way leads on to way and
I find with strength that I can say:
I will leave this road.
Only, I wish I wasn't so alone...
