Pieces of You

Your hands, they are stangers to my body.
Your words visited me last night.
They said to me,
that your fingers could be travelers to the country of my back.
Told me that they had wander-lust.
They wanted to take time at every place they visited
to memorize the way it felt to touch something
they had been so curious about for so long.
You said that they wouldn't stop anywhere and settle
until they found the one spot they fit perfectly,
Said that they wanted to feel at home in their favorite spot.

Your smile though, is such a familiar friend.
I know it from younger years filled with spontaneity.
You used to smile at me and give me more than just a smile.
You wanted to make sure I got what you thought I deserved from your attention.
When you smile at me you give me a piece of your soul, temporarily, everytime.
It consisted of your mouth, most definitely.
One side of your mouth quirked up, in a tight smirk.
The other side of your mouth open in a laugh,
Allowing little pieces of your breath to exit your lips,
mix with the push of your vocal cords to send a signal of happiness my way.
Sometimes your smile would would open your arms to me
and embrace me in a moment that we'd take advantage of,
and forget it with years to come.

Your eyes though, you made sure you gave me those.
With every smile, laugh, encounter, talk, or musical cord that came from your heart you looked me right in the soul.
Your eyes are so heavy they could crush Superman under the weight of your sorrow.
When your eyes met mine I knew
You didn't want me to smolder or burn out under the pressure.
Your heart would reach its little arms up into your head,
they'd try with all of their might to lift the sorrow from your eyes to give me only happiness.
With a weight of sorrow so tremendous your heart couldn't lift it on its own,
but with every glance we gave to each other, you knew that I was right there.
Helping you.
My tiny heart grabbed the hands of your heart and with the extra help of my love,
the sorrow left your eyes.

I bet you never knew, that I spent so much time memorizing
all of the little pieces of you,
so I could save them for a time like this
When we realized that, somehow, our hearts never quit holding hands.
