You and I

At nights you come to me with your calm,
and you place me on your surface.
Rest me there in contrast of your blacks and blue,
you let me shine so bright.
I've never been lucky enough to touch you
but I know the day will come.

I get so tired sometimes,
from just sitting on your surface,
just watching my light dance on you,
when I just want to be apart of you.

To me, from up here,
I know I'm just a ball of gas,
so hot Im on fire.
You show me how beautiful that can be
when you're lightyears away.
Still, I just want to fall from the sky,
fall into you,
I don't care if it'll burn me out.
I want you to cool me down.
I've spent centuries dreaming of your cool,
because all I've ever known is the heat of my hot head.

Some nights, you distance yourself from me.
I guess you know just how high my hopes get,
and you don't want to let them down,
so you try to save me the trouble.
You shrink back into the earth,
but notice I don't leave.
Still, I rest on your surface,
we make such a good team.

Millions of people come to us at night,
leave the safety of their homes,
they sit on the edges of your body,
and under the safety of my sky,
and admire us.
They watch the smooth of your calm,
and the light of my bright,
and they wish they were you and I.
