Today

I chew on sunflower seeds,
and the side of my jaw,
I grit my teeth,
And hardly anyone knows
its because I used to smoke.

I used to fill my lungs with smoke,
As eager as a child
Filling a piggy bank.

We all grow up one day,
And suddenly tomorrow is today,
And you're still not doing any better,
So you start doing worse.

You hit rock bottom,
And it starts hitting back,
But fighting for your spot in rock bottom
Is the one thing you won't give up on.

And then you lose,
And you start doing better,
And suddenly tomorrow is today,
And you're smiling again,
Like a child who just filled their piggy bank to the very brim
