Sunrises

I never told my arms, "I'm sorry."
I never told my stomach, "thanks for trying."
I never told my heart, "you did good."
And I always knew not to hold my breath waiting for love,
But I tried anyway.

I was turning purple and blue,
Asphyxiating on my impatience,
Until you came along.
Placed air in my lungs and love on my tongue.

You are one great hit of acid,
Taking everything I know about my reality
And throwing it in the trash.

You are cuspids arrow,
Striking through my heart,
Emptying me of life and reviving me if hope.

Take me, take me.
Because I am all yours.

We're just a few short sunrises from where we want to be.

And you are my bird,
My free spirit,
And I know with every glance
You're breaking the shackles incarcerating my heart.

You are the sweaty palms
And the unsteady breathing.
You are the reason I'm not leaving.
