Where I'm From 2

I'm from the slide that burned my growing legs.
From friction and summer heat.
I'm from the paint, comics, and posters
In the hot, sunny, ocean water smelling attic.
I'm from the backyard cookouts
With family I've never seen before
Or really don't care to know.
I'm from "Don't listen to that garbage!"
And upthrusting the volume!
Ignoring the stony glares.
I'm from mac and cheese
Made all day from scratch
And then gone within an hour.
I'm from the family dinners
That still felt like a dinner for one.
I'm from the deathbats
From sleepless nights
Needing more than a pillow to cuddle.
I'm from "Stop fighting your brother!"
But "Hit him back!"
I'm from my first kiss
That ended in blood
And arguing parents.
I'm from Being Gay Is A Sin
Then believing them
That I wasn't meant to live.
I'm the lone wolf
The one that may never find its pack.
