Ode to Z

The Ancient Mariner could not weave such a tale,
Nor what Shakespeare's fairies could sing in the vale.
Most readers and writers are misunderstood,
And some were stressed with no proper word.

My English teacher, my friend, I hope this poem will help.
I know that life throws us some curves and makes us yelp.
A great man once said, "that writers' work is art."
And I finally took that all to heart.

Like Shakespeare's saying of "Dressing Old Words New,"
Peoples' lives wind through the path we all knew.
If ever man did wrong, it would be those to hurt the art,
The man is not defined by his mind, but by his heart.

So Mr. Z, the things you wrote and spoke,
The teachings, the memories that come from a yoke.
Will be remember by not the ones who said what you did was wrong,
Nor the ones who said it was too hard, but those who chose to take your words as a song.
Something that would always be remembered by tongue.

Like the great poet John Keats and the great god Apollo,
Stories I've read and heard that hollered.
You made them fun to learn and the games we take,
To figure out the puzzle that writers make.

So thank you for helping through the tough times of Shakespeare, Hawthorne and Keats,
Without your teachings, I would have been forever in the darkness like a body in peat.
Although people are trying to tear you down, know one thing,
You have taught on kid who found a new fashion of writing.

Dressing Old Words New.

I wrote this to my favorite teacher of English who actually taught me how to read Shakespeare correctly and helped me understand more of what writers were actually trying to convey. He was the best teacher at the school that had horrible administration, horrible teaching methods and pretty much a horrible experience for me to be there. He stood up for us kids and tries to teach us to always keep believing. When he was fired, English at the school finally went down hill and I left. But I kept this poem for him because I didn't really want to forget the man who taught me to keep moving forward, no matter who stands in the way.

To Mr. Z, the best teacher in the world. Thank you so much for teaching us how to read and how to actually stand up for what is wrong in our society.
