Shadow

My shadow walks beside me;
the cold air nips at my nose,
and travels down to my toes.
Thoughts swirl in my mind, not letting me be.

I've had enough; I'm done looking back.
Done trying to find happiness.
There's nothing I'll miss.
Even though it never came, I always braced myself for the smack.

My shadow grows bigger
as our destination grows near.
I tell myself I'm not filled with fear
when I put the gun to my head, and my shadow pulls the trigger.
