A Foolish Love

A girl loved by two fell ill
and laid in a hospital,
at the foot of Death's door.

the first was her lover,
a fine gentleman
and the man of her dreams.

the second was a klutz,
with an unrequited love
and an awkward fool.

as they mourned her approaching death
Death himself appeared before them
with her life within his grasp

they both begged him to stop
and save her instead
because they loved her

Death laughed at this
and proposed to them a deal,
one he was sure they wouldn't accept

"Leave your family,
Your friends and your everything
Let me take you in her place

then I'll let this girl live
while you're a lifetime away
rotting away in hell."

the first man paused
and considered his family
he just couldn't put them through his loss

the second didn't hesitate
As his love was very foolish
he accepted the deal.

Before Death could react
the girl slipped out of his grip
And woke to life and loved ones

and the foolish man was taken anyway
traded for a life that wouldn't have gone
he went with Death as a fool

The girl looked around her bed
And called for her lover
Giving her Gentleman a warm embrace

And the fool looked on
As Death pulled him away
into an endless abyss.
