Burning Books

Hey! STOP! Put down your book!
I mean don't put it in your new fire.
I thought you were all book lovers.
Keep that book in your hand.

What is wrong with y'all?
With all the Kindles and Nooks?
What is the world going to without all,
the Dreams, the Hopes, the Books?

I'm not one to forsake your books,
To denounce your ways that y'all took.
But those books you all throw into the fire,
Will make the Madman, the Lover, and the Liar be on the wire.

I'm a teen who don't read, one that rather be outside,
Making my life story without hiding on the inside.
Y'all make me sick by what you do,
And by doing so, you or me becomes me and you.

Put down the Nook, the Kindle,
Douse the fire you have made,
Books shouldn't be treated this way,
Let that book live another day.

Maybe the authors could tell you how wrong this is,
Bradbury was right, look at what y'all have become.
What had brought y'all into thinking like this,
To have your books fear and likely to never come.

Then again, who'll listen to a teen,
Preaching out words that fall on deaf ears?
Preaching the words of books that people fail to read,
Who cast the teen's words away like drabble and "dears"?

Who am I to tell y'all wrong,
Maybe you may realize before its too late.
Books aren't meant to be this far gone,
I thought that books were all your mates.

Maybe I am the one to be wrong,
A teenager, a nerd that doesn't read.
Of course you probably think I am stuck in songs,
Words that aren't even similar to what your brain eats.

Go ahead then, throw the book,
Say that the pages don't mean a word.
Curl up with your Kindle, your tablet in your nook,
Maybe you'll start to be the same as me, bored.

Maybe I was dumb to stand up for what I hate,
But they seem to be unsafe even to their grander audiences: You.
Maybe I was too late to save the pieces of your mate,
Cause now I see that burning books was something y'all have grown to do.
